All previous officers and trustees were re-elected at the June meeting for the 2019-2020 term. We thank them all for making Perry such a successful association. We encourage our members to volunteer for officer and trustee positions.

Shotgun Patterning

There is a patterning stand for shotguns located between trap-house #2 and #3. Please refrain from firing shotgun shot shells at the pistol ranges at the shorter 10, 15 and 25 yardages. Shot shell pellets at such short distances quickly deteriorate the target mats requiring replacements and more frequent maintenance. Limit shotgun use at the range for sighting in slug barrels.

Your copy of the 2020 club calendar is enclosed. Please keep it handy so that you don’t miss any club events. Current club officers and trustees are listed. Events and/or changes that develop during the year will be posted on our web site.

15th Annual Women On Target®

Perry, along with the NRA Women-On-Target® program and NRA Foundation Inc. held two 15th annual non-competitive, instructional clinics in recreational shooting and hunting sports this year on June 15th and September 14th. Forty-one (41) ladies total completed the clinics and enjoyed both day’s events in safe firearms handling, hands -on pistol, rifle, shotgun and archery shooting. Congratulations to the ladies who attended the clinics. Two clinics are tentatively planned again for our 16th annual events, one on Saturday, June 13, 2020 and the second on Saturday, September 12, 2020. We receive funding from the NRA Foundation to support the clinics.

2019-2020 Board Shoots

Perry will hold two more Board Shoots for meat trays during 2019, November 10th and December 8th. The first two Board Shoots during 2020 will be held April 12th and May 10th. Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. and the shoots start at 9:00 a.m. Splatter boards and strip tickets for meat trays are also sold during those events. For every entry sign-up your name is also entered in a special drawing after the December shoot for a Cabela’s gift card.

Big Game Contests

We awarded two $50 winners in the longest turkey beard contest. Marvin Burkert and Harold Readinger Jr. had entries that tied at 10-15/16 inches each. Both were harvested in Berks County. There were a total of four entries. The next bear and deer contests end at 8:00 p.m. on 1/28/2020 and 2/25/2020 respectively. The next longest turkey beard contest ends at the June 30, 2020 regular meeting. Bring your harvests to the club for measurement.

While using club facilities we encourage you to take and post photo’s of the enjoyment of shooting and activities at our club. We also post special activities and events on Facebook. This is an easy way for exposure to the Perry Township Game Association.

Redners Holiday Gift Card Raffle Ticket

Perry is holding a holiday raffle for $50 Redners Market gift cards. One gift card will be awarded for every 20 tickets purchased. Enclosed are four tickets. Donation cost is $5.00 each, or $20 total for all four; but a donation is not required to enter. Sell 10 of the tickets and receive a free ticket for yourself. The drawing will be held at the December Board Shoot on Sunday, December 8th. Ticket holders do NOT have to be present to win. The gift cards will be mailed to the winners.

Perry has the best members. Thank you for supporting our Association by purchasing and selling our raffle tickets. The gun/cash progressive raffle on 8/4/19 was very successful. We added 6 additional guns and one cash prize due to the brisk sales. A total of 18 valuable prizes were awarded. Raffle tickets accompany our two annual newsletters and we hold two special cash/gun raffles in the spring and fall and four 250 club raffles during the year. Come to the club or contact a club officer to participate in all raffles. The profits raised allow us to do more property enhancements.

Hunter Safety Education

Congratulations to all 20 of the students who graduated during Perry’s course in August. Twelve (12) females and eight (8) males participated. This course is held annually during the first week in August. The 2020 schedule will be posted on the Pa. Game Commission website sometime during March, 2020. Students need to register on their web site for our program.

NRA Membership Recruiting Program

Perry is a registered recruiter for the NRA. The Association receives a recruiter fee if you join or renew your current membership with the NRA through our club. We offer discounted rates; for example $10 off an annual membership. Log on to our web site or stop by the club for further details.

Perry placed 5th in the 2019 Berks County Amateur Trapshooting League. Four of Perry’s shooters won in the league shoot-off. The 2019/2020 Inter-valley League started September 15th at Leesport. A new venue for that league is changed to 25 target scores with raffle chances to win a new Friedhoff trap shot-gun (or $5,000) and other valuable prizes. We would love to see you compete with the Perry’s team. Perry won the Monday evening league by 30 targets over Lenhartsville this year. We hold 50 target public shoots the first Sunday of each month. We host the Berks Inter-Valley league at our October and November, 2019 monthly trap shoots and we will have a regular trap shoot on December 1, 2019. However, the normal 2020 monthly trap shoots are again cancelled for January, February and March. The typical poor turn-out during those months produces very little revenue and it is also costly to keep the trap fields free of snow and ice those months. We will be starting up again on April 5, 2019 and will hold our typical Monday evening handicap shoots every Monday during April, 6th, 13th and 20th and 27th. The Monday evening league will start May 4, 2020 at Lenhartsville; and Perry will host the shoot-off next year.

Have you tried the new Lincoln commercial grade hand trap between trap houses #3 and #4? Note that this trap operates differently. You rotate the target arm counter-clockwise until parallel to the main spring and until the arm locks. Either single or doubles can be thrown. To avoid injury, please stay clear of the arm when it is released.

Expansion of the club house over the existing porch with a new adjacent wood deck is expected to begin December 9th and be completed by spring 2020. The expansion will include new mini heat pump, modified roof line, roof shingle replacement, new flooring and new lighting in the existing clubhouse.

An updated copy of the range rules and regulations is included in this mailing. Please pay attention to same when using the club facilities. It is every member’s duty to patrol and police the use of the ranges.
