TRAP SHOOTING
Perry finished 5th in the 2023-2024 Berks County Inter-valley Trap League. The 2024 Berks County Amateur Trap League starts April 7th at Lower Pottsgrove Gun Club. We welcome new shooters to compete on Perry’s team. Our handicap trap shoots will be held every Monday evening in April. The Monday evening league starts May 6th at Lenhartsville. Shoots alternate back and forth between Perry and Lenhartsville.
Big Game Contests
We have added more biggest deer rack categories for $75 awards. We now award one each for Rifle, Archery, Junior, Ladies and one by drawing for everyone who entered that didn’t win one of the other categories. The winners this year are: Biggest Bear: Jeff Himmelberger with a 165 pound one taken in Berks County. Biggest Deer Rack Archery: Kevin Sheetz with a 9 pointer and spread of 21-1/8 taken in Berks. Biggest Deer Rack Rifle: Larry Martin with a 10 pointer and spread of 22 inches harvested in Berks., Biggest Deer Rack Junior: Jaxton Henry with an 8 pointer and spread of 12-1/2, There were no lady entries. The two winners from the drawings were: Gary Kohler and Terry Werley, both 8 pointers. The next contest for longest turkey beard taken in the fall 2023 and spring 2024 seasons ends June 25th.
Hunter Education
Perry will have a Hunter Ed. course again this year. Go to the Pa. Game Commission web site to register for our course on Friday evening and Saturday morning, June 7th and 8th. Must attend both. Limited to 50 students.
Summer Gun Raffle Ticket
Perry has a summer gun raffle ticket with drawing on August 4th. This is a progressive ticket with 8 firearms to start. Additional guns and/or cash prizes will be added based on brisk ticket sales. Last year we awarded 12 guns and 5 cash prizes (17 total). Go to the Make A Payment tab on our web site to buy with credit card. $5 each or 5 for $20.
Fishing Rodeo
Perry is again co-sponsoring with Lenhartsville Fish & Game again this year to hold a youth trout fishing rodeo at their pond on Saturday, May 11th. The rodeo is open to members of both clubs, their children and grandchildren at the lower pond at Lenhartsville. You must have a fishing license and show your membership card to enter. Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. and fishing at 8:00 a.m. for kids 15 years of age or younger. Adults, 16 years of age and over, can fish after 12:00 p.m. up to dark. Prizes will be awarded. Bring your kids and fishing tackle for a day filled with fun. There is a three fish limit. Cost is $5 for kids and $10 for adults.
20th Annual
Women On Target®
Perry, along with the NRA Women On-Target® program and NRA Foundation will again hold two 20th annual non-competitive, instructional clinics in recreational shooting and hunting sports this year on June 22nd and September 21st. Entries are limited to 32 participants in each event. The courses include instruction in safe firearms handling, hands-on pistol, rifle, shotgun and archery shooting. To register go to the nra.org web site. Click on Firearms Training, Women’s Programs, Women-On Target. Then select your preferred date and register. You must pay the $50 pre-registration fee on our web site. Click on the date in the Events tab and then click on our PayPal account button to pay with credit card. The NRA Fdn. provides financial support for the clinics.
BOARD SHOOTS
The next Board shoot is on April 14th. The other six shoots are May 12th, June 9th, September 8th, October 14th, November10th and December 8th. Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. and the shoots start at 9:00 a.m. You are competing for very nice meat trays from Christman’s in Oley. Splatter boards and strip tickets for meat trays are also sold during those events. For every entry sign-up your name is also entered in a special drawing after the December shoot for a gift card.
