PERRY TOWNSHIP GAME ASSOCIATION

FALL 2021 NEWS LETTER

OCTOBER 1, 2021

Vol. III, Issue 25, page 1 www.perrygunclub.com Join the NRA at our Association

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The election of officers for the 2021-2022 term  at the June meeting resulted in Travis Foose  becoming our new President. We welcome two  new Trustees, namely Joshua Christ and Jerry  Johnson. All other officers were elected for  another term. We thank them all for making  Perry such a successful Association. We  encourage our members to volunteer for  Association positions.

Shotgun Patterning

There is a patterning stand for shotguns  located between trap-house #2 and #3.  Please refrain from firing shotgun shot shells at the pistol ranges at the shorter 10,  15 and 25 yardages. Shot shell pellets at  such short distances quickly deteriorate the  target mats requiring replacements and  more frequent maintenance. Limit shotgun  use at the range for sighting in slug barrels.  only at 50 yards and beyond.

2022 CALENDAR

Your copy of the 2022 club calendar is enclosed. Please keep it  handy so that you don’t miss any club  events. Current club officers and trustees  are listed. Events and/or changes that  develop during the year will be posted  on our web site.

17th Annual Women On Target®

Perry, along with the NRA Women-On Target® program and NRA Foundation held two  17th annual non-competitive, instructional clinics

in recreational shooting and hunting sports this  year on June 19th and September 11th. Twenty nine (29) and Thirty-one (31) ladies respectively

completed the clinic and enjoyed the day’s events  in safe firearms handling, hands-on pistol, rifle,  shotgun and archery shooting. Congratulations to  the ladies who attended the clinics. Two clinics  are tentatively planned again for our 18th annual  events, one on Saturday, June 18, 2022 and the  second on Saturday, September 10, 2022. The  NRA Foundation provides support for the clinics.

2021 & 2022 Board Shoots

Perry will hold three more Board  Shoots for meat trays this year,  October 10th, November 14th  and December 12th. Next year

one additional shoot will be held  June, 2022, for a total of seven  (7). Refer to your calendar for the  dates. Sign-up begins at 8:30  a.m. and the shoots start at 9:00  a.m. Splatter boards and strip  tickets for meat trays are also  sold during those events. For  every entry sign-up your name is  also entered in a special drawing  after the December shoot for a  Cabela’s gift card.

Big Game Contests

The winner in the longest turkey  beard contest out of three entries  was Garren Spohn with an entry  of 10-7/16 inches. The next bear

and deer contests end at 8:00 p.m.  on 1/25/2022 and 2/22/2022  respectively. The next longest  turkey beard contest ends at the  June 28, 2022 regular meeting.  Bring your harvests to the club for  measurement. All winners now  receive a $75 award.

FACEBOOK

While using club facilities we  encourage you to take and post  photo’s of the enjoyment of  shooting and activities at our  club. We also post special  activities and events on

Facebook. This is an easy way  for exposure to the Perry

Township Game Association.  social media.

Redners Holiday Gift Card Raffle Ticket

Perry is again holding a holiday raffle for  $50 Redners Market gift cards. One gift  card will be awarded for every 20 tickets  purchased. Enclosed are four tickets.  Donation cost is $5.00 each, or $20 total  for all four. Sell 10 of the tickets and  receive a free ticket for yourself. The  drawing will be held at the December  Trap Shoot on Sunday, December 5th.  Ticket holders do NOT have to be present  to win. The gift cards will be mailed to  the winners. Last year we gave away 65  of these gift cards

Raffles

Perry has the best members. Thank you for  supporting our Association by purchasing  and selling our raffle tickets. The gun/cash  progressive raffle on 8/1/2021 was very  successful; the best raffle we ever held. We  added four (4) additional guns and eighteen  (18) cash prizes due to the brisk sales. A total  of 32 valuable prizes were awarded.  Winning numbers are posted on the web site.  Raffle tickets accompany our two annual  newsletters and we hold two special cash/gun  raffles in the spring and fall and four 250  club raffles during the year. Come to the club  or contact a club officer to participate in all  raffles.

Hunter Safety Education

Unfortunately, we were not able to hold  our program again this year due to the  Covid-19 restrictions imposed by Governor  Tom Wolf. This course is normally held  annually during the first week in August. If  it can be held next year, the 2022 schedule  will be posted on the Pa. Game  Commission web site sometime during  March, 2022. Students need to register on  their web site for our program.

SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

There have been incidents at the ranges  where shooters were not following the  primary safety rules, namely:

(1) Always have the muzzle pointed down  range in a safe direction and not towards  anyone. (2) Keep your finger off the trigger  until ready to shoot. (3) Keep the action  open until ready to shoot.

You will receive a warning if a  violation is reported and your  membership will be revoked if a  second violation occurs.

TRAPSHOOTING NEWS

. Perry finished sixth in the 2021 Berks  Amateur Trap league. Four of Perry’s shooters won in the league shoot-off on  August 29th. The 2021/2022 Berks Inter valley League started October 3rd at  Perry. The new venue established last  year is in effect again for this year’s  shoots. In memory of David Sheipe his  unfired Remington 870 TC 12 gauge  shotgun will be awarded by drawing at  the end of the season. Perry won the  Monday evening league over

Lenhartsville this year. We hold 50 target  public shoots the first Sunday of each  month. We will host the Berks Inter

Valley league at our November 7, 2021  monthly trap shoot and we will have a  regular trap shoot on December 5th..  However, the normal 2022 monthly trap  shoots are again cancelled for the months  of January through March. The typical  poor turn-out during those months  produces very little revenue and it is also  costly to keep the trap fields free of snow  and ice those months. We will be starting  up again with our typical Monday  evening handicap shoots every Monday  during April, the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th.  The Monday evening league will start  May 2, 2022 at Lenhartsville; and Perry  will host the shoot-off next year.

NEW STEEL TARGET  RIFLE RANGE

By the time this newsletter  hits the street we are hopeful  that the new range is

complete and in-service. The  targets are set at 90 yards +/-.  Some of the precautions that  we ask all users to follow:

THE STEEL TARGETS ON  THIS RANGE ARE

RATED FOR RIFLE AND  SHOTGUN SLUG LEAD OR  CONVENTIONAL LEAD  CORE COPPER JACKETED  BULLETS ONLY.

AMMUNITION THAT  EXCEEDS 3,000 FPS AND  MAGNUM CALIBERS ARE  PROHIBITED.

ARMOR PIERCING, STEEL  JACKETED, TRACER,  FULL COPPER, SPENT  NUCLEAR, OR EXPLOSIVE  OR ANY OTHER NON LEAD AMMUNITION ARE  STRICTLY PROHIBITED

IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO  USE SEMI-AUTO RIFLES;  BUT NO UNCONTROLLED  RAPID FIRE IS ALLOWED.

NRA Membership  Recruiting Program

We are a registered recruiter  for the NRA and we receive a  recruiter fee if you join or  renew your current NRA mem bership through our club. We  offer discounted rates; for  example $10 off an annual  membership. Log on to our  web site or stop by the club for  further details.

250 CLUB

We hold four 250 club raffle drawings  and blowouts each year. Attendance at  the blowouts has diminished since  2020 when we had to cancel the April  and June blowouts due to the  COVID-19 restrictions. We  resumed the blowouts on August 4,  2020 with a poor turnout. Blowouts  ever since have been below  expectations. One blowout remains on  November 3rd this year. We welcome  everyone to again attend. Lots of  OPEN raffle tickets are available. We  encourage our members to check out  these events and participate.

Membership Dues and Changes

We now have all members under a  one year membership based on  payment month. Grace periods and/or  late fees no longer apply. Unpaid  members will be dropped as soon as  their card expires and a $10 re-join fee  will apply. We will notify you by mail  when your renewal is again due.  However, because the post office is  not totally dependable it is important  that each member know your  expiration date and renew during that  month or before. New members who  now join will receive a new card good  for one year based on the actual  payment month. We strongly  encourage everyone to pay on-line via  the tab labelled “Make A Payment”.  Complete and submit the membership  renewal form to update and confirm  all of your information and then click  on the $20 PayPal renewal button to  pay with credit card. Please notify us  when you change your mailing and/or  e-mail addresses.
